## The Jamsil Font
### Font Introduction
The young and newly changed Lotte Mart ‘The Jamsil Font’
Lotte Mart announced its new vision, “Everyday New Store” in 2022, in order to break away from its existing aging brand image. To provide customers with a young and changed Lotte Mart experience, it developed a new font. The Jamsil Font is a new attempt that incorporates the Lotte Mart brand image and the historicity of the Jamsil area. It focuses on the fact that Lotte’s heritage is Jamsil, and the area name “Jamsil” was selected as the name of the font. The Jamsil Font is developed in Korean, English, Vietnamese and Indonesian, with the ultimate goal of making people feel the beauty of the Korean language overseas and introducing Jamsil as a representative region of Korea.
### Font Concept
“Jamsil” means “a room where silkworms are raised.”
Jamsil means “a room where silkworms are raised.” In the past, the Jamsil area was a place where sericulture was encouraged.
Before designing the font, we pondered on how to show Lotte’s heritage “Jamsil” in a new way, and we decided to incorporate the “silkworm”, the old symbol of Jamsil.
### Formative Features
1. The silkworm's life cycle is captured.
The Jamsil Font is a font that well expresses the newly changed Lotte Mart by modernly interpreting and applying the silkworm’s life cycle, from when it raises its head to eat mulberry leaves, to the process of making cocoons, and finally to the process of extracting silk from cocoons.
* Cocoon
The “O” shape, which is the most important element that determines the impression of the Korean font, applies the round and elongated shape of the cocoon to express the heritage of Jamsil and Lotte Shopping’s solid foundation.
* Raw silk
The appearance of raw silk being drawn out without any distortion creates a sense of vibrancy and symbolizes Lotte Mart’s strict standards for producing the best results.
* Silkworm head
The characteristics of the “vowels” were inspired by Jamdoomajae (a brushwork technique that forms the basis of calligraphy), and the silkworm head shape is modernly expressed at the end of the stroke.
2. It is easy to read and see, from small to large characters.
3. It is available in six weights, making it convenient to use anywhere.
